No-Cook Pizza Sauce

"No-cook" is a slight misnomer, since of course when you bake the pizza that this sauce graces with its presence, there will inevitably be some cooking. But a sauce that looks this gorgeous, tastes this vibrant, without simmering on the stove even in the slightest? Yes, please.

If you like your pizza really saucy, you will like this sauce. If you're secretly disappointed when you go to one of those "gourmet" pizza joints and the slice you order has tomato rounds instead of sauce, you'll like this sauce. Come to think of it, whoever you are, you'll like this sauce. It's rich, it's tomato-laden, it's zesty - look no further.

Grab one of those whole wheat pizza doughs from your market, slather on this sauce and some fresh mozzarella, and you've got dinner.

No-Cook Pizza Sauce
adapted from Cooking Light Magazine
makes 2 12" pizzas worth (or 1 extremely saucy one)

INGREDIENTS:

5 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 1/2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, mostly drained
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste

DIRECTIONS:

1. Stir all the ingredients together in a bowl with a whisk. Put on a pizza, bake it, and eat!

Enjoy!

  1. Seriously?? That's absurdly easy. I'm totally trying this.

  2. This is almost exactly the same sauce I made for my "Vera Pizza Napoletana" for Foodbuzz's 24-24-24 last month. I couldn't believe how great this was on a pizza given the relative ease (OK super easy) of making it.

  4. Your cookies and your sauce ran together. In fact (it's kind of funny), I read your last sentence about "....I was greedy with the batter" ..then the next picture was the sauce. I couldn't figure out what was GREEN in your batter. :) I'm sure you didn't do this on purpose but it's funny. Sometimes these blog sites are too frustrating - they do their own thing.
Anyway - great job on the cookies.

  5. Alyssa and applecrumbles - i'm not sure why some people are able to comment on the cookie post and others aren't - on my computer they are two separate posts, both in safari and firefox - hopefully this problem will be corrected! thanks for the comments, though :)
